![]() CHAPTER TWO is a very fine Grand Banks Classic Trawler in every regard. Her condition is wonderful and the equipment list long. The galley down trawler was custom built for a seasoned, worldwide cruising couple with long range cruising in mind. This single engine, variable pitch prop drive system was designed and manufactured with the help of Volvo, Hunested, and American Marine, builder of Grand Banks Trawlers. |

Accommodations This is a rare, single engine, 46' Grand Banks with long range capability. The Volvo diesel engine is the TAMD102D model, and if you call your Volvo dealer, he would comment on how long a life engine they are. It is designed to be in much larger boats and used commercially. In this installation the engine operates at low rpm providing economy and long engine life. The engine drives a large Hundested variable pitch prop. With a set rpm, the helmsman moves a lever forward to go as fast forward, as slow forward, as that rpm will allow. The lever can be moved to a netural position and then back to go backwards at the desired speed. Simply set the rpm and move one lever back and forth. The prop has four large blades; the pitch of these blades is changed by the forward and reverse lever. The trawler may be operated a various rpm settings as well as various prop pitch settings to maximize speed or fuel economy. CHAPTER TWO is the standard galley down, two stateroom, classic trawler. She has a wonderful aft owners cabin as well as great accommodations for guests. The forward stateroom has large V-berths that do not need a filler to be comfortable and accommodating. The two berths are great. Head room, light, and ventilation is good throughout the trawler. There is a parque sole throughout the trawler which is in fine condition. The cushions and upholstery are stunning. This stateroom has a private head with separate shower stall. It is to starboard and large enough to house the washer and dryer. This stateroom has a hanging locker to port and lots of drawer storage. The U-shaped galley is midship to port with wonderful accommodations for storage and meal preparation. The galley person is never far from the action as the helm is up to starboard in the salon. Large windows, hatches, and ports provide all the necessary light and ventilation needed. The large salon is up three steps. It has wonderful, large, opening windows that provide good visability. It's as if you were in a home. The completely equipped helm is forward to starboard with a side door to the wide side deck. There is a second side door to port. It is easy to dock the trawler because of the access to the side decks. There is a small dining counter with two swivel stools to port, between the galley and salon, which can also be used as chart table or deck. The port side of the salon has two Grand Banks chairs and a built-in entertainment center. The L-shaped settee to starboard serves as the dining area with a custom high/low, double drop leaf table, to be used as a coffee table or dining table. The ice maker is behind the helm, separating it from the settee, with a countertop and bar glass storage. The settees lift up and have a huge amount of storage space. As you can determine from the photo's, this is a very good looking interior. Note: The interior is air conditioned throughout. Three units, each with digital controls. The master stateroom is aft with a walk around queen size bed, easy to get in and out of and it is simple and easy to make the bed. Storage in lockers and drawers is fantastic. This is a long range cruiser with storage capability to match. The desk is in the aft port corner, currently used as the computer station. The shower is to starboard, separate from the head and vanity to port. There is a door leading to the aft deck from this stateroom. The windows, ports, and hatches all have screens. The windshield and side windows have the see through sun screens that provide a degree of privacy and keep the hot sun at bay. With propane stove, Grunert refrigeration, water maker, washer/dryer, and generator you are self-sufficient for weeks on end.
Electronics/Electrical
Navigation equipment has been updated at both helms.
Deck & Hull The white hull and house are in very good condition, waxed July '02. The teak decks are in good condition. Exterior teak varnished October 2002. This trawler has green accent with green boot stripe and green canvas. The swim platform and transom doors provide easy boarding. CHAPTER TWO has it's dinghy stored on deck with davit to lift it into and out of the water easily. The large flybridge has a green bimini top with full enclosure. The S/S radar arch was designed to keep the over all height low and to mount the bimini, antennas and radar raster bar. The flybridge seating is very accommodating and provides a lot of deck storage space. The aft cockpit is large and has a storage locker below. The wide side decks and foredeck provide safe movement around the trawler while underway. There is a foredeck locker box for storage. This is a single engine trawler, with full keel, and a PROTECTED PROP.
Mechanical The large Volvo Marine Diesel engine was designed for long life (rated for over 20,000 hours) and has been one of the finest Volvo engines built. It has been very well maintained. It is easy to get around and service the Volvo dsl. and the Northern Lights generator, in the large engine room. Remarks: This is the only GB 46 ever built with a single engine and Hundested controllable pitch wheel. CHAPTER TWO is a serious long range cruiser. Increased fuel capacity coupled with the drive system economy provides longer range than any GB 46' ever built. The hundested wheel is generally found on much larger cruising yachts and allows you to control the speed of the vessel without adjusting the rpm; able to run forward and reverse simply by adjusting the wheel's pitch. This system has been used for many years, especially on comercial fishing vessels, where it has proven its reliability and usefulness. You can adjust for speed or for fuel efficiency with ease. In conjunction with the bow and stern thrusters you can "walk" the boat sideways into or out of a slip. For example: CHAPTER TWO will cruise at 8.5 knots at 1350 rpm using 4.2 gph. The trawler will do 12 knots at approx. 1800 rpm.
